So today is the last day of school for the 2014-2015 school year. Gavin is finishing 10th grade, Riley is finishing 7th grade and Asher is finishing 4th grade. As is the case with pretty much every mom I know, I find it hard to believe that my kids are already this old. It’s crazy to think of all of the things they’ve experienced already.
This year has seen Gavin playing soccer (his team won districts, so that was awesome) and his continuing dedication to the sport he loves most of all, basketball. He has turned into a man-child this year. I wasn’t quite prepared for the crazy hairy legs, beard and deep voice. He has transformed from boy to man this year and that’s a little hard for this mom. He lifts weights several times a week and is all muscle and he has a job on a farm and drives. What?! How can that be? I’ve seen him grow in so many ways this year and am really proud of who he is and who he is becoming. He works hard and has improved his grades and is going to be starting Middle College next year. It’s going to be a big change from this year.
Riley has grown in so many ways this year as well. He started drum lessons and continued with band and it’s so awesome to watch him getting better and better. He definitely has a passion for playing the drums and he practices every day for hours. It has totally paid off too, because he’s been featured at band concerts and he’s trying out tomorrow for the talent show at church too. He is really creative and has been working on writing some of his own music. He will be part of the marching band this next school year and he’s really looking forward to it. He even tried out wrestling this year and really liked it. He got in at the end of the season, so he didn’t get a lot of experience with it, but he enjoyed it and is considering trying it out next year. He is such an amazing kid, with such a big heart for others. I’m so proud of him.
Asher is still the wild and crazy kid that he was at the beginning of the school year. I had hoped to see him become a little more organized and focused, but I think it is becoming more and more clear that he is just like his dad, so that is probably never going to happen. LOL He is so smart and amazes us all of the time with the types of things he knows. He is a math whiz (definitely not from me and all from his dad) and discovered that if given the right book, he really likes to read. Since we are going to majorly limit screen time this summer, I’m hoping he will develop a real love for reading and I’ve got a bunch of books ready for him. He’s downright hilarious and so incredibly quick-witted (just like his dad) and he has our whole family laughing about something daily. He’s creative (like his big brother, Riley) and has quite the imagination. He played soccer in the fall, basketball throughout the winter and tried wrestling for the first time. He really enjoyed all of it and is already signed up for soccer this fall and is also going to try out some flag football. He’s got a TON of energy, so all of these things are really good for him.
I am so proud of all that my boys have accomplished this year and am happy for the experiences they were able to have. It was a really great year that went by really fast. They have so many exciting things to look forward to next year, but once noon hits today, we won’t be thinking about any of that! We’ll be thinking of swimming, camping, bonfires, sleeping in, etc. So summer vacation, we’re ready for you! It’s going to be a great summer!!!
